What is it about diamonds that makes girls go all gushy? Is it the sparkle that glitters so brilliantly in the light? What is it really? Why is something so small so expensive even?

I once read somewhere, “Love is intangible and cannot be shown, but diamonds is the next best thing to show your appreciation for her” and also “Diamonds are the way to a woman’s heart the way food is to the way to a man”. How true is it? You be the judge.

As a man, I could never quite understand (or could I hope to). Yet the number of jewelry shops out there seems to be ever increasing, and the amount of diamonds found inside these shops are definitely not lacking. I guess that’s how much importance women place on these objects. And also on branded luxury bags… but let us not go there today.

When we talk about expensive items, what comes to mind? Gold seems to keep appreciating even during the economic crisis.

After all, even though gold is valuable, you can’t probably wear it and show it off. And as if to solve this very problem, we have jewelry.

First off, jewelry as defined by Wikipedia is “an item of personal adornment, such as a necklace, ring, brooch or bracelet that is worn by a person. It may be made from gemstones or precious metals, but may be from any other material, and may be appreciated because of geometric or other patterns, or meaningful symbols.”

But did you know that the oldest jewelry is thought to be over 100,000 years old? Yup, they were made from Nassarius shells (or snails!) back then. Jewelry has sure come down a long road and evolved since then.

Today, we have many various chains of jewelry shops and one of them I’m about to introduce to you is Tiffany & Co. They have been the world’s premier jeweler and America’s house of design since 1837. And their 2009 Summer Silver Collection is now for sale (prices are in USD though so please note)~

If you’ve been waiting to get your hands on something nice for someone special this coming Christmas (which is about a month away), maybe you can consider the list of rings, necklaces or bangles they have. Looking from the pictures alone, I think they look really pretty.
